43 amerikanske universitetsstuderende tildelte stipendier til at studere i Storbritannien

43 amerikanske studerende blev tildelt 2018 Marshall Scholarship, den største klasse af forskere siden 2007, ifølge den britiske ambassade.

Listen leveret af ambassaden lørdag til Associated Press navngiver modtagere fra colleges og universiteter i hele USA. U.K. på mandag vil annoncere stipendierne, som hovedsageligt finansieres af den britiske regering.

Stipendierne sigter mod, blandt andet, gøre det muligt for intellektuelt fremtrædende unge amerikanere at studere i Storbritannien, ifølge sin hjemmeside. De finansierer studier i op til tre år på enhver britisk institution.

Oprettet i 1953, stipendiet begyndte som en gestus af taknemmelighed til USA for den bistand, Storbritannien modtog efter Anden Verdenskrig under Marshall-planen, programmet, der hjalp med Europas økonomiske genopretning mellem 1948 og 1951.

Alumni omfatter højesterets associerede dommere Stephen Breyer og Neil Gorsuch, og den sene 2008 Nobelprismodtager Roger Tsien, en biokemiker.
